Recentemente, a princesa Eugenie, do Reino Unido, também tomou uma decisão importante ao escolher um vestido de noiva que mostrasse sua cicatriz nas costas.

O decote foi pedido da princesa, que passou por uma cirurgia aos 12 anos para corrigir um problema de escoliose. A fotógrafa conta em entrevista à Elle que a série nasceu em abril de 2017, com o intuito de criar algumas fotografias que explorassem a trajetória de vida de uma pessoa, mostrando suas cicatrizes e a história por trás delas. “Beleza é algo que sempre me interessou, e eu gosto de encontrar beleza que pode ser ignorada”, conta Mayanne.

O projeto cresceu e, atualmente, a fotógrafa encontra muitas outras mulheres dispostas a compartilhar suas histórias: “Eu capturo a vulnerabilidade, resiliência, beleza e ideias das pessoas e consigo mostrar suas histórias de uma maneira incrível. Ser capaz de mostrar a alguém uma nova imagem delas mesmas, através de uma câmera, tem um impacto — e a coragem delas ajuda outras pessoas também.”

As fotografias mostram mulheres que passaram por dificuldades, mas mantiveram a força e a beleza. Aos 25 anos, a modelo Elly foi diagnosticada com câncer de ovário. Ela fez 3 meses de quimioterapia e passou um total de 22 horas em operações, até ficar curada. Ao invés de deixar que sua cicatriz a afastasse da carreira de modelo, ela a aceitou e utilizou como uma marca pessoal e inspiração para outras mulheres.
