O fat-shaming é um termo americano de carga negativa que literalmente significa “envergonhar o corpo gordo”.

O fat-shaming é comum na Ásia em geral, seja nas interações cotidianas e na mídia popular. Enquanto muitos países têm padrões de beleza que favorecem a magreza, a pressão para ser magro é particularmente intensa na China, onde é comum os membros da família e até estranhos comentarem sobre seu o peso.

Além disso, os tamanhos de roupas na China não são padronizados em toda a indústria da moda. O tamanho plus geralmente começa com o equivalente a um tamanho 38 ou 40 no Brasil e cerca de 90% das lojas no país ainda não oferecem roupas plus size.

Como no Brasil, a China começou a trabalhar com modelagem de tamanho maior recentemente, em torno dos anos de 2010. Entendendo a demanda de um mercado sedento, a Rio Model Management foi a primeira agência a enviar profissionais plus size para trabalhos na China, sendo ela pioneira nesse tipo de photoshoot.

RMM: Como você encara o mercado da moda sabendo que a preferência é o padrão magro (fashion models)?

LV: O mundo da moda foi sempre muito selecionado em relação a aceitação de modelos “fora do padrão”. Sempre tive o sonho de ser modelo. Quando era obesa, nunca fui aceita em nenhum trabalho pois não era padrão para nada. Depois de alguns anos, eu comecei a emagrecer e as oportunidades começaram a surgir, com isso veio uma aceitação maior por um corpo considerado “normal”.

Já passei anos da minha vida fazendo dietas malucas que não davam resultado para conseguir chegar em um corpo perfeito que as agências pediam na época. Há dois anos começou o boom das modelos de tamanho plus e curve. Quando isso aconteceu, passei a me aceitar mais e as pessoas começaram a me enxergar diferente. Acho que no mundo da moda, todo mundo precisa ter oportunidade. Cada um tem o seu brilho e seu momento exato para ter sucesso. Foi bem gratificante saber que agora somos aceitas pela mídia e passamos a servir de incentivo e inspiração para outras pessoas.

RMM: Como você se vê nesse mercado plus sendo uma ditadora de beleza? Você sente preconceito dentro da profissão?

LV: Hoje em dia o preconceito diminuiu, mas ainda não deixou de existir. Ainda há muito o que ser trabalhado na mente das pessoas leigas de que, na verdade, nossos corpos são normais. Há quem ache bonito o corpo alto e magro, mas são poucas modelos que tem oportunidade quando não se encaixam no padrão de beleza imposto pela sociedade. Aqui na China, os clientes nos vêem com outros olhos. Sinto um olhar de surpresa e felicidade por representar uma classe que ainda é pequena aqui.

RMM: Como você se tornou modelo?

LV: Eu tentei ser modelo desde pequena. Sempre falaram que eu era linda mas nunca me mandavam para castings. Depois dos seis anos, comecei a engordar muito. As agências sempre falavam para minha mãe: “Sua filha é linda mas ela está gorda. Não vai passar uma imagem de saúde nas fotos ou gravações”. Meus pais nunca tiveram condições de me oferecerem as coisas mais luxuosas da vida, porém nunca deixaram faltar nada, desde comida até educação. Me ensinaram a batalhar desde pequena para alcançar meus sonhos. Depois dos 15 anos, comecei a emagrecer e as pessoas começaram a me enxergar diferente pois já começava a entrar no “padrão”.

Um dia, meu irmão escutou no rádio a caminho da escola que havia um concurso para uma agência famosa onde escolheriam uma modelo para ser contratada. Fui ao casting com o incentivo dos meus pais e os agentes nem olharam para mim. Fui desclassificada logo de cara e chorei muito. Nesse dia, conheci um olheiro que se aproximou de mim e falou que eu tinha futuro. Fiz o curso de modelo, e a partir daí, surgiram os meus primeiros trabalhos. O melhor é ser reconhecida, escutar os clientes dizendo que depois que eu comecei a fotografar para eles, as vendas aumentaram. É muito gratificante!

RMM: Como você lida com castings na China e os resultados positivos e negativos?

LV: Acabei conseguindo meus primeiros castings imediatamente e, a reação é a melhor possível. Fico muito feliz. Infelizmente, às vezes não conseguimos o trabalho por incompatibilidade de perfil e essas coisas acontecem. Precisamos ter fé que na hora e no momento certo a oportunidade aparecerá — não deixo me abater, só uma porta fechou e não todas. Nesse espaço de tempo, eu fico sempre pensando no que eu posso fazer melhor para abraçar as oportunidades e não perder nenhuma. Meu foco é superação!

RMM: E a rotina intensa de trabalho, como está se adaptando a isso?

LV: Eu fico um caco em relação ao cansaço! (risos) No começo estranhei muito o ritmo desse lugar. Meus pés estão sempre inchados, com bolhas e descascando de tão intenso que é. Já fotografei mais de 8 horas no salto, fora as horas de ensaio, as horas de pé … tudo isso causa grande peso na saúde. Por incrível que pareça, mesmo sendo difícil eu gosto de estar ali trabalhando. Penso que muitas pessoas queriam estar ali no meu lugar então tento aproveitar até os momentos de folga para pensar nos próximos passos.

RMM: Sabemos a saudade bate forte! É difícil alcançar esse sonho sabendo que está tão longe de casa? Nesse momento, você consegue ter a perspectiva que isso é uma oportunidade única em sua vida?

LV: Tá aí uma coisa que não superei até hoje! Choro sempre quietinha no meu canto de tanta saudade que sinto da família inteira! Falo com eles pela manhã e a noite para sentí-los bem perto de mim. Todos eles me apoiam demais. Quando estou triste, ligo para eles e busco forças para continuar a caminhada pois sei que tem muita coisa boa para acontecer. Mesmo com saudade, preciso cumprir a minha missão aqui na China de representá-los.

RMM: Já faz um mês que está ativamente trabalhando e morando na China. Qual é o balanço do primeiro mês? Os desafios, conquistas e planos para os próximos meses?

LV: Tudo nesse primeiro mês foi muito intenso. Desde as emoções até o processo de lapidação do meu próprio trabalho. Tive bastante dificuldade de deixar de lado as manias e trejeitos que consegui depois de um tempo trabalhando no Brasil. Meu foco é me adaptar ao novo estilo chinês de modelar. Por exemplo, na China eles não gostam de sorrir com os dentes, e lá no Brasil, o que eu mais fácil é usar meu sorriso para as fotos. Tem sido uma batalha grande até hoje deixar isso tudo para trás.

Nesse primeiro mês amadureci bastante aqui pois estou sozinha. Aprendi que devemos realmente viver como se não houvesse o amanhã. A amar mais e dizer ‘eu te amo’ para as pessoas que amamos. A sensação de não estar dormindo em casa é totalmente diferente. Sonho todos os dias que já estou em São Gonçalo. Pensando bem, eu reclamava de coisas bobas que aconteciam lá, agora vejo que tudo é perfeito do jeito que deveria ser. Estou animada para o futuro e encontrar a família em breve!
